Almost halfway through the season

Almost halfway through the season, we can comfortably say that this is being an almost flawless campaign for Barça Femení. A 1–1 draw away at Rayo is the only minor black spot in an immaculate journey from the Azulgranas so far in the 19/20 term.

It is clear that this team is different to last year’s. The game against Rayo would have normally happened much more often and would have costed us the league title. However, while Atleti have taken one step back, Barcelona are unstoppable even in tighter clashes.

Saturday’s clash versus Granadilla would have been one of the matches where Barça would have dropped points in the last seasons. They were 1–1 until the 78th minute, but the Catalans showed patience and maturity, and obviously a lot of quality in the final third.

Barcelona is a ruthless attacking force. We can certainly make a point that Caroline Graham Hansen has been one of the best footballers of 2019. An assisting machine and a lethal dribbler in the RW, Caro has taken her new team like a duck to water.

Despite having to adapt to the Spanish defences, who mark the players and suffocate attacks, CGH has understood what her colleagues need with barely a pause along the way. With 6 goals and 7 assists in the Primera Iberdrola, the Norwegian sensation has wreaked havoc.

She has added a whole new dimension to the culés’s free-flowing attack, and Martens’ return from injury has made the Blaugranas even more lethal on the wings. Jenni Hermoso has been the cherry on top of the cake, with 15 league goals in her way to another Pichichi award.

The front 3 and midfield certainly is Barcelona’s strongest area, with 10 players for 6 positions. Patri, Alexia, Aitana, Mariona…have all been spectacular. A shame that Andrea Falcón got injured, but recently Barça managed to sign versatile 29-year-old Ana Crnogorcevic, who can act both as a RB and forward.

Barcelona’s move to the Estadi Johan Cruyff has been highly successful, with all wins and an average of 4.88 goals in favour and 0.55 against. Lluís Cortés’ side is 5 points ahead of Atlético in the league, and will face the Rojiblancas in the UWCL’s quarterfinals.
All guns blazing. This is our season.
